The Umbilical Termination Size Reduction (UMSIRE) Joint Industry Project (JIP) was set up in response to industry wide issues with the size and weight of umbilical terminations for Subsea Production Systems. The JIP was established following an UMF (Umbilical Manufacturers Federation) initiative which brought the importance of the issue to the fore within the industry. The JIP was initially supported by several major umbilical installation contractors: Subsea 7, Saipem and Technip, followed by a wider industry group including the operators, designers and system packagers.
The deliverables of the JIP are to publish the following documents:
- API 17TR9: Subsea Umbilical Termination (SUT) Selection and Sizing Recommendations
- API 17TR10: Subsea Umbilical Termination (SUT) Design Recommendations
